What this programme covers

The Usman Moon Scholarship helps bright, under-resourced learners stay in school with dignity. Criteria, expenses, and renewal rules below are designed to be fair, clear, and accountable to donors.

Eligibility

Criteria for qualifying

Students are assessed on two basic dimensions: need and merit.

A

Financial need

We review documents and household circumstances to understand true need.

  • Utility bills and basic expense documentation where applicable
  • Income certificate or employer confirmation
  • Home visit or verification step when required by the panel
B

Academic merit & interview

We balance compassion with commitment to learning outcomes.

  • Recent exam results and school reports
  • Interview with the student and family
  • Reference from the school where applicable
Coverage

Expenses covered & limits

  • Admission
  • Tuition
  • Books
  • Uniform
  • Shoes
  • Transport (where approved)

Educational expenses are covered up to Intermediate level, within approved limits set each cycle. The exact cap depends on school fees, locality, and fund availability — communicated clearly to each family at award time.

Duration

Tenure & how support is provided

Award cycles typically run one year, with renewal subject to academic performance, conduct, and continued need. Disbursements are aligned with school terms so fees and essentials are paid when families need them most.

Between 2015 and 2017, ILM disbursed over 1,500 scholarships — a milestone that reflects both donor trust and rigorous on-ground monitoring.

Outreach

Finding deserving students

1

Networks & referrals — Teachers, volunteers, and community partners flag families who need support.

2

Direct applications — Parents may apply with documentation through ILM channels.

3

Campaigns — Website notices and SMS drives widen reach across neighbourhoods we serve.

Zakat

Collection & use of Zakat

We operate under approved guidance for applying Zakat to educational support for eligible beneficiaries. All Zakat is utilised within one year — before the next Ramadan — so funds stay timely and purposeful.

Accountability

Your trust is our pride

Transparency matters: trustees and programme leads review outcomes, monitor student progress, and ensure every rupee aligns with ILM’s mission.

Clear reporting

Donors see how support translates into attendance, results, and wellbeing.

Governance

Board oversight keeps programmes aligned with policy and ethics.

Student-first

Decisions prioritise the child’s continuity, safety, and dignity in school.
